Ontario's Vision, Part 3: Order Results

I was at home on Monday the 5th, so I could pick up the mail right away.

My glasses came in. They're lovely. The company sent the glasses in a case with the logo embossed on the lid. The glasses are from Oakley, so they were inside a little pouch inside the glass case. The order came with a small kit containing lens cleaner, a towel and an adjusting tool (read: a tiny screwdriver, a different 'head' on each end).

I've given my eyes a few days to adjust, and I feel the prescription is correct. Moreover, I did not have to have any adjustments made. What I got was a pair of glasses that had not been manipulated in any way. I had to bend the arms of the frames myself to hook them over my ears... this begs the question: what the hell do opticians do to glasses when they put in the lenses??

I should also tell you that they sent me a card with a code on it to pass on to new customers. This entitles the new customer to a free pair of glasses. VERY basic lens, I should tell you, it wouldn't apply for my prescription or anything worse.

But if they can do that, that tells me that the mark up on glasses is astronomical even for them, they're making money hand over fist with heavily discounted prices, and store front opticians are criminals.

So I'm sold. My glasses are beautiful. In the summer, I'd like to order a pair of prescription sunglasses. I'll keep you posted on those too.
